I got an email from one of my yahoo dolly groups that Dr. Phil is doing a show on Reborns on Wednesday, December 10th. I don't expect it will show reborning in a positive light. From what I understand he was trying to get guests on his show that have an unhealthy relationship with their dolls. Just wanted to pass on this info.
Ya, my girlfriend texted me last night to say basically the same thing. These are going to be women who are obsessed with things. She thinks it might hurt us as reborners but I guess if the Fake Baby one from the BBC didn't, then quacky Dr Phil can't hurt us too much either! He kinda went down in popularity when he gave away personal private information on Brittany Spears to the press! Baaaad move!
It's just like the news, they show the negative without showing the positive. I have seen another show where they did a wonderful segment on a woman who reborns. Good show, and showed us in a positive light. :)
Hello gals! I agree he thought it was a weird hoppy. How about all th guys that obsess over cars and toy train collectors are they wierd?I juat liked seeing the ladies collection .what fun!!!!
I didn't get to see it cause I was already at school (I'm in college) but my friend did say he actually held one of the reborns and did say that the woman wasn't obsessive but it was a hobby for her and others. I did read on his website and what he said was actually good!
Tiki, I answered your other post on this subject and asked you to post here but you already beat me to it.
I watched it and at first thought it was bad for us but then by the end he said as long as having these babies don't run your life or get in the way of life than whats wrong with it. I figure my husband spends alot more on his Harley and carries a rag to clean it every time we stop and loves showing it off and my Mom collected salt and pepper shakers which I thought was crazy after # 600 but she got a lot of joy out of it and babies I think is a way of making tangable something we have had in our lives a memory of our baby or whoever.
Ya, as long as no one is obsessive about it to the exclusion of everything else. Besides it all in fun (and art! ) lol :) I agree, my husband has a few toys so why not me!!! And mine cost a LOT less
Well, I guess Sam and myself are nuts as when I first started making porcelain dolls he would say," Goodday Kiddo" when he came through the door, to see Shay sitting on her rocking horse. I don't get as attached to the vynal as I dont think for me, we don't start them for the pouring stage, drying cleaning, firing and then painting. And of cause I had to make their cloths. So I think just having a pic after I sell them will be enough. I dread the thought of unpacking all the moulds, dolls, and washing and ironing hundreds of cloths. LOL But as for Dr. Phil, I missed it to, but saw it on a forum, I don't think it is only the reborns some ladies obsess over, as I had one lady wanted a porcelain doll made as her husband as a boy to put his ashes in and to have someone make cloth from his suit. xxxxJune
I just went to 20/20.com and watched one they had on Friday about women and their reborns. Yes I'm sure as with anything some carry it a bit far but so do many with other collecting habits, it just kills me how they have to make it seem so strange. Some thing that seems so NORMAL to want and yet they make it so weird and try to make it un-normal. My husband pays to store his Harley every winter where it is warm and he can have something new and exspensive chromed or added yet this is fine and MASCULINE to the world. Why isn't wanting a beautiful, prescious, innocent baby natural for a woman and a good "stress relief" as my husband and others put it or an "out" from work and so forth. You buy a painting and some are exspensive to hang in a room and look at so when you walk in that room you will see it and feel good or it brings back a fond memory etc. it is no different with a reborn except it puts tangable with a mental memory. I'll get off my soap box now it just erks me. Judymae
Can I get up on your soapbox now? I carry 2 with me at all times in case I fall off one lol hehehe
I did see the one on 20/20 on Fri and everything was ok except the lady who they HAD to make an issue of. But I did think it a little strange that she not only pushed the doll in a stroller out in public, but she even got annoyed if no one paid attention to her with her doll. I realise that she said it was a replacement for not having any chldren but I think part of the issue with people with dolls in public is that there is a stigma attached... you either have to be a child or have some kind of psychological issues. Basically they say that adults do not play with dolls. People see collections as collections I think, but to take it out in public and actually treat it like it's a live breathing child is a bit much for most people.
My husband has a Harley too but he only babies it at home. Our friend did that too when it was his... never used a rag or cloth on it, only used compressed air to dry it off (no scratches you know lol).
But they showed that other woman with the large collection and that was ok as it only took over her room hehehe. I really didn't like the 20/20 one as it gave a bad rap to us reborners, just like the BBC one on the "Fake Baby". Made buyers out to be a bunch of loons and us sellers a bunch of heartless money-grubbers. Taint so!
Ok, I'll get off YOUR soapbox and mine. At least the Dr Phil one was in our favor!
I agree. I think a lot of what irritates me is words like "weird, strange, unusual and extreme" being used in the interviews and them saying something to the effect of "we had a hard time finding one that would come on the show" after using those kind of words. Of course you would have a hard time nobody wants the world thinking of them as strange or weird and we deffinately don't want to think something we find enjoyable to be wrong. I think in anything there are those extremest's such as my Mom and her more than 1000 sets of salt and pepper shakers or my daughters grammy in law that has every happy meal trinket ever put in a box. But hey it isn't hurting me and if they find joy in it HOORAH for them. I think it much more natural for a woman to want a reborn who can't have a baby or just loves being around them (me) than say one who hangs out at parks watching babies. I just think if it hurts no one and makes you happy why do we have to put a label on it as weird or strange? I think we should all take a baby out once in awhile and remeber what it's like to JUST HAVE FUN AND SMILE!
HERE HERE!!!! I think so too! I just keep telling everyone... Yes, I just keep telling everyone, I'm never gonna get old... I play with dolls and watch cartoons! :) lol
Well...sorry, but I still play with dolls. lol. I just love holding them and trying on clothes and I have just about worn my camera out trying to learn how to photograph them. I want to learn to show them differently. Something you don't see all the time...so I'm constantly trying different things. And...talk about baby clothes..oh my...I could probably dress every baby doll that everyone has in here... well now that sounded like good grammer?? Oh well..it's almost 2 AM... I think I'm going to go and be a kook and hold one of my reborns. hehehe

I know i sold a baby to a 46 year old woman who had just finished college, has 6 children from 18 to 6 yrs old and landed a job at a near by hospital and she said I don't care what anyone says I earned it. Well her parents loved the baby so much they took it to lunch with them and was passing her off as their new grand daughter the people that owned the resteraunt got such a kick out of it they took their picture and hung it on the wall. Why can't everyone just enjoy the fun. I think some people are just so miserable they can't find pleasure only weirness in anyone elses joy. Maybe they need a baby. I just sold a set of twins to a woman probaby in her 60's that collects porcalin (spelling?)failed that class obviously! dolls from all over and she wanted a baby she could hold. I say Here here ! Judymae
It was a bit sad to see how the dolls were presented like a big joke for idle women. I wrote in about 8 months ago and told him about the reborns and the difference they were making in men and women with Alzheimer's and ash if he would go to my website. So I was really disappointed that it didn't strike a cord in his memory. You have to wonder how much of the requests he actually sees. Maybe we should join together as a group and tell him we are depressed about how the show went and as a group we really need his help so he should have us all on.That would be a show. Jacque
