Thanks for your help in advance. The first doll I did I never had a problem with the glazing gel. The next two have done the same thing happened. The gel just turns out flakey or cracking on the lips. I have NOT diluted it. I baked it. And the last two just were horrible. Some one in another post uses the paper glaze. I would rather have a not so shiney appearance. What is going wrong here? Any suggestions are most appreciated. Thank you, Brenda
I've used Aleene's paper glaze (baby tears) and the Genesis Glazing Gel. My experience is that the Genesis Glazing Gel is less shiney - just more of a subtle moistness - than the paper glaze. I haven't experienced flakiness with the glazing gel. Do you think maybe you just got a bad batch of it?
I wondered that myself. That is brought of by another that had the same problem. It was kinda funny she discribed the same effect that I was getting. What is wierd is that my first doll, I had no problem. My husband suggested that I mix it up. That chemicals do seperate. I tried the paper glaze on a trial limb to see how shiney it was. And it's a bit shiney for me to put on lips and nails. Ok, for a moist look for an open mouth. I bought a complete Secrist kit with doll and paints. So, I think maybe I will get another small size and try it again. You just hate to do that step at the end of all your hard work, and have a problem. The last baby was hard to correct. Thanks for your input.
With the glazing gel you have to put on a VERY thin layer, don't put more than one. It only takes just a very little bit. Be sure to bake at the correct temp. If you bought it from Secrist (other sites do sell it too) and using it how I mentioned above, then just e them and tell what happened and how you applied/baked it. If they were the ones who sold it to you they will stand behind their product.
As far as the paper glaze, I too think it's too shiny for me for lips or nails, so I use the glazing gel as it gives a slightly shiny "satin" finish more like real life. If I want a drool I'll use Aleen's.
I know how frustrating it is to get all the way done with a baby and then have one of the finishing touches go wrong. Try it the way I said above and see what happens this time. But try it on a sample limb. They're only $2. Cheaper than a whole new kit eh? I always have test limbs to try things on first! Just a suggestion :)
As Julie suggested I may have gotten some that was bad or old. I purchased another jar of the Genesis Glazing Gel. And it worked just as it should. Thanks for the input!
