I´m very new at this as you all can tell this is now my 5:th attempt in all and my first head that is larger approx. 50% of a life size head.
With the pics taken I can see that the ears did come on too high? What else can you tell me?
I also tried out the painting thing! ;0) and it was fun and I think I was too careful not to overdo it so it does not show in the pictures and some digital cameras so find it hard to produce the reds and pinks! I just used some oils... some burnt sienna, and umber... and some crimson dark red.
and it was really fun! So some day I might do some painting too!
I still have this lint issue and I think I will try to sit in the shower next time!;0) But I found out that some of it comes off when the sculpt cools down and i gave it a try with a fine sandpaper (wet) So this made me a bit more happy!

I think you do it very well! Good job, in my opinion he is a little pale, but as you said it can be because of the camera effect. Keep doing such a good work! =)
Yes I think this is the camera actually! It looks almost as it is not painted at all! But I think I´m happy with it being my first"larger" one! The next I will try to have a picture to look at and see if it might help me and save me from guessing so much! My children have lately experienced how their mother look very closely at them into their ears and such strange areas! ;0) My 5 year old said to me the other day! -You did clean my ears yesterday don´t you rememenber? even I cannot get my ears dirty in just one day! thank You for your support!

Pat B. great minds think alike. As soon as I saw that sweet and expressive face I thought fairy, elf or hobbit. It has an almost other world/fantasy feel to it. It is just adorable and would count myself very pleased to have acheived that effect with any sculpt. Mischa, what size is the finished head? You said about half the size of a "normal" baby.... perhaps you could use a 12" doll body to complete the doll? I'm sure you can find a wig for it. I hope you will make a complete doll out of it and show it to us... I REALLY would like to see it finished.

Well I think it is about half the size of a real baby... What do I know my own children were almost this small! ;0) mm and 12 inch will be in metric just a sec!.... ok about 30cm and I guess that would be just right!
I´will try to put it togheter hmmm even though I tried out how hard the head really is! I threw it and it smacked right in to the over 110 year old kitchen wall! (solid claybrickwall) I do not smack babies into the wall that often ;0) but I wanted to know how how brittle it would be! And I can tell you that the only thing that came off was a tiny bit of it´s ear! I smacked ti with full power!
So why not make her/him and elf or some other kritter! My eldest daughter who is wery skilled in sculpting btw (she reborns My little ponys not only paints them but adds on to them to make them special) She says all the time that my sculpts look like elves hmmm helloo my dear daughter! I´m trying to make babylike sculpts here! But then again when I draw a horse it looks lika dog and vise versa! Hahahahah My absolutely first attempt to sculpt a baby looked like Gollum!
Now with the one ear off I can experiment a bit more!
To make this first larger head kind of made me a bit sad, but I do not know why! so I haven´t been touching that clay again since then! It feels like I´m waiting for something to do the next one! Is this strange or do you know what I´m talking about!?
I will try and make the background white for the next photo!! thanx for the tip! My best friend also told me to check the Whitebalance in the settings of the camera! Daaaaah!!! (He is a proffesional photographer so he aught to know!)
So I will be back soon! And we will take a guess what became of the earless head smacken into a wall!
My best to all of you!

Ok Now I did the ears! But I have to tell that baking the ears (and the rest of the head) Did reveal severe cracks! (well what have we learned from this? Never smack babies in to the wall!) So I guess that this little one will not be finished... but here is a picture anyway with the ears!!
I gave it another try with paint (trad oils) and I´m not that impressed! I will get some genesis!!! And I´m just testing out the feeling and handling of a head! I usually paint on canvases and that is a lot different to a head with wrinkles and stuff!
Any way here he/she is! My first head.

I guess personally I like him better this way than with the demon horns lol. He even looks good bald! Hmmm reminds me of my husband lol ;) He looks ok, where are the cracks (and no smacking him off the wall again) :o lol
