Gothic reborn dolls

Okay, is it just me, but i think its sooo wrong to make a reborn baby into a gothic or vampire doll?
They dont look at all one bit nice, but thats just me. I can however think of a few friends who would love to have one of them but i cant see myself owning or let alone making one.

I wouldn't do it! But, to each their own. It is a novelty and if it sells well that's another thing...no still wouldn't do it. LOL!

I'm with you, Amy!  I've looked at their auctions on e-bay mostly out of a sense of, "Huh?"   I have seen a couple that were cleverly, even artistically, done, but they just don't suit my taste.    no.gif

I find some of them interesting, but most of them that I have seen aren't well done. I think it might be fun to do one for Halloween, but I think that if I do fantasy reborns, I will probably limit myself to changelings or other fairy folk.

i think they could be done better, the ones i've seen haven't been anything fantastic in terms or artistry... i am drawn to the "drak side" a little (only in art), i'd like to maybe do one... but i've never seen any sell well at all so thats where i hesitate, its alot of work for the poor sales results i've seen.

i think you have to remove yourself from them as "babies" and see them as dolls again.

I'd like to do a fairy too ... one day i may.

I've seen one exceptional artist who does the gothic. I always appreciate her babies for their artistry.

I,ve seen one done as a devil and I didn't think much of it even though it was well painted, I know we have some little devils out there and put them in different clothing with the sayings on them. But I couldn't come at doing one.weirdfaceJune M from Oz

I've seen these dolls for awhile on ebay. At first I thought "wow, how could someone make a demon baby"....but then I realized that it IS just a doll and even though it's a different kind from ours, it is still just an art.
I have seen some really well done gothic babies (very few). They looked fantastic. The ones I saw that were very well done got as much as $200-$300. So Naomi, if you decided to do one (with your skills) I think you would have no problem selling in.
I don't think they look good when they are over done, like painted, green or red, unless those colors are very subtle and not just BAM.

I agree.  The artist I saw had very realistic looking babies who were also Gothic/Horror.  One is a vampire, another a ghoul (?).  She has one that is a demon (I think) with little horn sprouts.

I did a green elf as a matian to goin one of my displays, but I don't think they would be good sellers, You'd really have to be into that type of babies, June M from Oz

Juliette... I know the artist you are talking about and I think her dolls are exceptional.

I appreciate the artistry that goes into her dolls, however some of the gothic dolls are little more than a bit of paint slapped on and some fangs put in with some creepy eyes.

I love the ones that make you do the double take... is it, or is it not a ghoul/demon/vampire/zombie/witch etc...

I agree with you.  Painting it green is not art, imo.  Her dolls are true pieces of art.

You are welcome. One can also see the difference between the artist versus the paint splasher ;)
