POOR JOEY!!!

Hi Everyone, I'm new to reborning and loving It!!! Also I really enjoy this forum.  I'm making Joey from BB. I don't think he will ever have hair. I've pulled out his hair again. (ouch!!)For the third time. It just seems I can't get it right. I want to micro root it.  But I'm thinking that I 've been putting to many hairs in at a time. You are only to put one or two hairs in at a time is that right? I think that I'm thinking my first doll should be perfect.  Have a good evening ladies.  Linda

aww linda dont be to hard on yourself hun (((hugs))) rooting takes so much practise its almost impossible to get it perfect on your first try, micro rooting is 1 to 2 hairs per hole what size needle are you using and how many barbs does it have hun?

leah is right it all takes much time and practise. First baby's are never perfect. With micro-rooting it is the most natural looking with only 1-2hairs per hole. This really is more dependent on the type of needle your useing and the number of barbs it has... the more barbs on the needle the more hair that are going to be grabbed and planed in the hole.

So if your wanting to micro-root your going to need a needle that has only one or two barbs.

I use a barbless german rooting needle, this is somtimes also called a fork needles. However allot of people apparently find these difficult to use... i'm in LOVE with them myself.

seeing you are only starting out i'd recomment trying to find the crown felting needles with 1or 2 barbs.

all the best

Hi Leah!!! Thanks for words of of advice!! I'm thinking I have size 38 3-barb needle. My freind was going to start reborning  and was going to order needles and a mushroom pin vise (wooden handle). So I told her as lond as she was ordering she might as well order me one too. But she's never stated her doll.  She went with the cheapest. I've already ordered the other mushroom pin vise. I'm also watching making sure I only grab one or two hairs at a time. Do you think maybe I need different needles? Thanks alot for all you great advse. Like I said I really enjoy this forum and all you great ladies. aww

ok 38 3 barb will put 3 to 4 hairs in each hole the effect you will get can be seen on the link below she is done with a 38 3 barb needle :)
http://tinyearthangels.com/sophie.html
try using a 40g 1 barb needle hun when i use mine somtimes i get two hairs in the hole i pull one out with my tweezers, alot of people will tell you not to start of doing micro rooting but my personal opinion is go for it learn it and perfect it, i did three babies before i decided to micro root i wanted it to look more real and ive never looked back, I dont know if youve seen Michaels auction he is in the artist showcase he to me has perfect micro rooted hair, its taken me almost 2 years to get my hair to where im now happy with it but ive had so much fun learning all the different ways to achieve certain looks etc rooting can be fun! (((hugs)))

just found them here hun

Once I discovered the 3 barb needles I've used the for everything, including rooting eyelashes! I have purchased 10 of the single "barb" German rooting needles for micro rooting but haven't braved them yet.

Just to give you some perspective: My first dolls I rooted wear hats *always* there is a mess. I used cheap mohair and was figuring out how to root. So, worse case scenario, Joey can wear a hat! Don't be too hard on yourself!

HI: I AM VERY NEW TO THESE FORUMS, SO FORGIVE ME IF I SHOULDN'T HAVE RESPONDED HERE. I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO PUT MY RESPONSE. I AM STILL LEARNING TO AS I HAD TO TAKE A 2 YR BREAK DUE TO HEALTH. AN SO MUCH HAS CHANGED. BUT I ALWAYS HAD TROUBLE MIRCROROOTING. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE NEEDLE. I HAVE FOUND THE  38 GUAGE TO 40 GUAGE TO BE THE BES. THEY ONLY HAVE LIKE 3 BARBS SO YOU CAN'T GET TOO MUCH HAIR.. BUT BE CAREFULL NOT TO LET THEM FLEX OR YOU'LL BREAK THEM. BUT YOU WILL QUICKLY LEARN HOW. MY PROBLEM IS MY SIGHT. UNTILL I GET A BIT OF HAIR I CAN'T SEE IT, LOL. SHE ALSO HAS THE ROOTING NEEDLES FOR ROOTING EYELASHES IN SLEEPING BABIES. I HOPE THIS HELPS. VESTA

Hi Vesta! I see you found this thread ok. Just click on some of the other ones like rooting, misc chatter, to see what everyone is talking about. Post your question in the topic and wait for answers. So say for instance you have a question or some advice for someone about rooting hair, you would go to the topic about rooting or mohair, click that topic, then see what everyone is saying or help answer a question that someone has. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it soon and will be helping people too! It's easier than you think!

So welcome to our forum hun, I know you'll like it here. :)
