After viewing pictures in the link that Leah gave in response to the post titled
"Is it possible" http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=121380&p=3&topicID=20303049#lastPostAnchor

i was in awe of the tallent and realism of this womans (pixie kissed) baby's hair, that i really got to work this afternoon trying to improve my own hair rooting. I've just finished and had to take some photo's to share. Still a long way off the mind blowing abilities of pixie kissed babies.... but practise, practise, practise

looks fantastic hun i love it! when i sent the piccies to you i decided to give michaels swirl a go im still going im such a slow ermm hair putter inner lol im trying from the bottom upwards so i can root in the direction to the top and have the hair all the way around create the swirl i dont know if it will work or not but thought it was worth a try, did you go bottom to top or top to bottom?

i started with the crown this time, but only did it out to the size of about a 20c piece. Then i work from the outer hair line back in towards the crown.

I like the effect i got, but i think it would be even more lovely if i had a first shear super fine mohair.

instead of cutting once it was all put in (avoiding *that* word) i shaved it all over with an ellectric hair shaver/razor with the biggest/longest attachment - which is about 3/4 of and inch. I've use the shaver like this on a number of babies i've done and it gives such a nice all over even cut/finish.

i say never stop learning or playing and i'm really excited at improving and continuing to improve my babies hair.

This is the statement that amazed me most about "Pixie Kissed Babies:"

"I take great pride in creating very realistic hair for my babies. The image you see is not of hair that has been combed over with water to look like it spirals - it is actually rooted in this spiral. This is the dry hair!"

here it is hun she has some on ebay at the moment heres the link
http://search.ebay.com.au/_W0QQsassZweavingdixie

and her site is
http://mohair.alphalink.com.au/dolls%20hair.htm
ive heard the pearlmoon is nice but not as soft as it could be im guessing its probably adult mohair or the winter shearing cause thats nice to looka t but somtimes isnt as soft as it could be i always get 1st or 3rd shearing kid mohair its the softess and feels like real baby's hair when rooted, i get alot compliments on the feel of my babies hair, im trying the adult hair at the moment on michael it roots lovely but the softness isnt there like it normaly is, im too fussy aswell though so just could be me lol (((hugs))

hey i've decided to do some searching for Alpacca and angora farms here in the perth (or outter perth) areas to see if anyone will sell thier raw or dyed mohairs of 1st or 3rd shear. I've found 2 places so far and sent of some emails. It would be nice to find someone on this side of Oz who might supply me with some quality hair.

I don't know that i have the patience for trying to dye my own hair... from what i've read its extreamly involved.

Anyway i've found and email 5 different farms in the outer lying Perth area, be interesting to hear back from them.

I've also emailed weaving dixie to ask about doing a private sale instead of the ebay auction... will see.

I have been trying to perfect my rooting too.  I have researched many sources for tips and Aug. 25th a lady put a tutorial on the BB forum for rooting a perfect spiral (I hope it's ok to mention this). This is the best tutorial I have come across.  It is very, very detailed.  She did a wonderful job!  I thought maybe you would like to read it to if you haven't already.

Have a good day!

Tesa, thank you so much for the info on rooting a perfect spiral on BB. I checked it out, and it's really well done and easy to understand.

Thanks!

I think you have to have strait hair to get the perfection that head of hair has., because we wouldnt get it with curly hair. I have been able to buy some parts of hides of alpacca mohair so next one I root, I'll try it' Actually I think Brian has alpacca hair, because he had white hair in his original picture. Tesa, i'll have to go have a look-see at that tutorial thanks for mentioning it.

everyone else thanks for the compliments

June- yes i did use straight hair, you could also get just as lovely result using a hair with a slight wave, tight curls you'd be able to show off the directional rooting when its wet and combed flat but your right when its in all its curls its going to be more difficult to see the spiral.

June the pictures above IS my own work, but the link to pixie-kisses site shows the work that i'm inspired by

the swirl shown in my pics in this post is of the hair for my girl twin, my boy twin looks very simalar. They will be both listed in on ebay in the coming day or two and i'll post a couple pics here of them both - i've not yet done either of their photo shoots though so you'll have to just stay tuned
