Sunflower now Melissa Marie
Permalink

I finished my little Sunflower and named her Melissa Marie. I made her outfit which needs little roses on the front and she needs some frilly socks and shoes. Other than that, her she is!

Melissa Marie looks lovely, you have done a nice job on her eyebrows, Have you used a wig instead of rooting her hair. Her outfit is nice, I myself like shorter brims on the bonnets of small babies, but with the other few added touches, flowers, shoes and socks, she'll be a pretty little girl.weirdfaceJune M from Oz

Yes I used a wig this time. The brim is a bit large but I was trying for an old fashion look on the hat. I might redo it. Thanks about the brows, I redid them at least 10 times until I was satisfied.

There's no need for you to unpick the bonnet, all you have to do is put some pin tucks in it to make it shorter and then I would put a piece of material underneath to line it, just to give it that finishing touch.weirdfaceJune M from Oz.  PS, It would also coverup the underneath of the lace, Try not to use elastic in your clothibng as it does perish and leave brown staines, I use ribbon now and the little extra bows on the nickers and sleeves leave a finishing touch.(((hugs))) You could also add the same flowers to the socks.idea

She is great! I love her frilly dress. I would also love to see some pictures without her bonnet too.

Your Melissa Marie is beautiful!  I LOVE the bonnet!  It reminds me of the "picture hats" of years gone by.  As a matter of fact, I wore one on my wedding day instead of a veil!

I especially love the pictures where she is lying down and holding up her dress.  Very sweet!

Congratulations!  Melissa Marie is lovely!

Here are a couple of pics with her bonnet off. I didn't try to cut it even though I could but then I couldn't put it in pigtails! June, I like your suggestions about the clothing and the hat being made to look more finished with a lining. Keep them coming, it sounds like you have had a lot of experience in dressing these wee little ones. I appreciate all the help I can get. I plan on trying to sell my dolls at a craft fair in October. I will have other thing there, also like embroidered items and some homemade little girls clothes.

Janie, Anytime I can help, no problem. I am self taught and can copy pictures from magazines, have been sewing since Mum got her Singer treadle sewing machine, when she would walk away, I,d get the scraps and make a dolls dress or something to do with dolls, I was about 8-9yrs, my eldest daughter is also excellent at sewing, learning by watching me and me making her unpick her mistakes, She just made an Australian Olympic blazer for my brother to attend a reunion, he went to the Tokyo games in 1964 as an Australian champion, I wish they had a forum for old Champions to connect with each other. I,m off the beaten track here, but glad to helpweirdfaceJune M from Oz.

Nighngale, Have you tried to put the pin tucks and line the bonnet yet. I think it will frame her face much better and the lining will stop it from drooping.weirdfaceJune M from Oz

I did make it not so wide by folding the material over the topstitching where the lace is attached and topstitched again. It does look better. I don't have enough material left to line it. I will have to wait till I got to Walmart and get another piece of the fabric.  I made her a pair of booties, but haven't bought her socks  or the roses for her outit yet. Janie in Tx.

Yes, the bonnet does look a lot better with the smaller brim, you don,t have to bye anymore material, if you unpik it and turn it up under and over the lace edge. You can see more of her lovely face. (((hugs))) weirdfaceJune M from Oz
