Hi, I was just wondering what the difference between a crown rooting needle and a "regular" rooting needle is. I see that both are available on the Honeybuns website. I am just starting out with my reborning experience. I wanted to order more rooting needles and am very confused. I would appreciate any help I can get!!!
dont quote me i buy my needles by size and barbs but i have heard them called crown needles eyebrow needles etc I assume the crown means for rooting in the hair on the head and would have 1 to 3 barbs i know the eybrow ones usualy have around 6 barbs I like to micro root so i always buy 40g 1 barb needles

T.E.A., Is there any different thickness in 1 barb and 3 barb to the crown rooting needle, I thought it was for the amount of hair that goes in each hole. I haven't seen a dvd on any of the rooting or painting. I tried to have a look on the forum but all I got was a black square.June M from Oz.
barbs = the amount of hair that goes into the hole 1 barb=1 hair 3barb = 3 hairs and so on the number 36,38,40,42,43= the strength of the needle 36 is a strong needle you would use this on berengure heads etc 43 is the weakest of needles so you would use it on a softer vinyl some people say smaller the number bigger the hole but through my experiments i can find very litle difference in the size of the hole, so basicaly if you are wanting a very sparse ultra look hair you use a 1 barb if you want a very thick head of hair you use a 2 or 3 barb same with eyelashes 1 barb is very sparse gentle look 3 barbs a thicker look and 6 barbs thicker still, I find the 40g1 barb needle to fit almost all vinyls except berenguer i do my eyelashes with the same needle it takes me anwhere from 40 to 80 hours to root a head though hehehe hope this helps (((hugs)))

Hi All, Thank you all so much. This information has been very useful. I hope I can remember it all. Luckily, I can always bring up this page and review the information you have all given me.
a crown rooting needle has the barbs all at the tip on the needles (or the crown of the needle) making the length of the sharft much stronger. Regular felting needles have barbs spaced down the length of the sharft, the means the sharft has a number of week spots down its length and makes it easier/more prone to breaking.
the crown needle barbs seem to be cut into the needle in a different way, the felting needles barbs are often very harsh and can cut and break your mohair more as it passes through it also.
I use the german barbless rooting needles now (which i just LOVE & are my number 1 choice), but out of the other kinds of needles available, its the crown needles that i'd recommend.
