OK here we go on this one! Do you have a baby that is in progress and you want to show it so far? Well, here is the place to come to. We all want to see how your baby is coming along and you can also post pics here in this topic!! Not just links like in the other topics. Don't make them huge or anything, just a decent size so we can see what they look like. Again, no posting links to other businesses sites, you can pm that information to anyone asking. I just thought it would be nice if we could show alllll our in progress babies, Secrist or not (of course we ARE partial to Secrist and AV babies lol). I hope to "see" lots of babies in the process of becoming real !!!
It`s amazing we finally have this great sections!!! Can`t wait to see all those pretty babies... but pat, would you please explain how to put the pics here?
I'm still rooting this one. He is "Jacob" by Shawna Clymer. He is my baby for a church auciton. I ran out of mohair that I had traded so I had to contact that person and buy some more from her! I took this pic so she could double check the color.

Thanks. I just got the rest of his mohair in the mail today. I hope to have him rooted by next weekend! Then I can take 3 babies out to get pics taken. I should get Willow's wings by the end of next week, have Julia's dress sewn, and have Jacob different outfits. Since he is for an auction I'm thinking of dressing him in gender neutral, boy, and girl clothes. I think the sculpt can go either direction!
Hi Ladies, Hope you get these pics. Here is my first baby. I didn't buy the premix paint. I went along with the dvd and mixed the paint as close as I hope it was on the dvd. I just started rooting the head. I don't know I don't think I'm to happy with it. Please critique these pictures and let me know. I value the what you ladies have to say. You know more about this than I do. I love this reborning and want to do a better job. Thanks for any advise. Linda
Linda, I think the colouring is nice, you have mixed the colours well, the only thing I can see is that between his nose may be a little blue, you may be able to tone it down, love his belly plate.June M from Oz
Thanks June for your advice. Please ladies I will take any advice you want to give me. At my porcelain doll class I figure I'm their to learn same here. The porcelain doll teacher also teaches sewing so when I do that wrong she says rip it out. I'm know as the rip out Queen HA! HA! But that's how you learn. I forgot to tell everyone that he is Joey from BB.I never did really see the blue until I put it on the web-site. Now can I just put a little flesh on it and rebake it? Should I invest in the premixed paint? Or continue with what I have? Would you ladies also tell me about the rooting? Do all of you start with a spiral in the back of their heads? I have Taffy waiting for me but I want to make sure I'm on the right track before I start her. Again thanks for any advise. Have a good day !!! LINDA
When I read your post (in another area) that said you were working on Joey, too, I had to check him out. He looks so cute, and he doesn't have his eyes or all of his hair yet! Love that little belly!
Hi Linda your colouring looks good I always advise beginers to get the pre mix set reason being on a dvd or computer the colours dont really look like they do when you have them there in person and it can give you a really good idea once youve actualy seen them as to what colour mixes you can make using the normal genisis paints as for the blue between the eyes you could try giving him a coat of flesh08 mixed with flesh07 thinned down with your genesis thinners if you have it its not as bright when you mix them together and the genesis thinners puts a thicker coat than the solvent thinners but very transparent at the same time, for the hair i start mine at the bottom and work my way to the top but alot reborners do it the opisite way top to bottom like you have its basicaly what feels more comfortable to you we all seem to find our own unique ways :) hope this helps hun (((hugs)))

Thanks ladies for all the great advice. Yes I'll do what you said and try the two fleshes mixed together to tone down the blue. Then I'll order the premixed set before doing my other one. I do think I'll pull his hair out. (ouch) and start over maybe from the bottom. Because I reallly don't think I have it tight enough. I'll be buying me a hat for him just in case. Again thanks for your help. It's great to have such talented and good freinds that are willing to share their advice!! Have a good evening. Linda
Linda, I,m a bit like you dabble in all doll making aspects, I was into porcelain doll making for over 20 yrs, but had to go to reborn as all my stuff is in storage for about the last 3 yrs, so was missing my doll making.I do enjoy newborning and can,t wait to finish it yesterday. I,m a bit bit impatient when it comes to doing anything.Hopeless at knitting and crochet as I can,t do it in a day.I,m glad you didn't take offence at my comments as they were only ment to be helpfull. Haven,t done any newborns with Genesis Paints yet, so realy can't comment on that, but know a lot about colouring.June M from Oz
Of course not I didn't take offence in any of the critique any one gave me. Very greatful for anything you ladies tell me. You are all very talented and sure know more that I do about reborning. I just wish my rooting picture came out better so you could see how that looked. I do think it needs to be pulled out and started again but a little tighter. Thanks again.
The coloring looks pretty good for having mixed them yourself (IMHO). And to tone down or neutralize blue, you would want to get a colorwheel and look at the opposite color of the blue (the color you want to tone down) and mix just a dot of that color with your fleshtone and apply. Can't wait to see him with his eyes in and a body :)
Hi Pat, Thanks for the advice. Would have answered it sooner but we are having computer problems. I was also reading about these german needles. size 42gauge. Is that for micro rooting? I'm doing my rooting on Joey I've pulled it out three times.because I wasn't happy with it. But I guess it won't be perfect for my first one. I've already told him he will be wearing a hat. HA! HA! I thought I would get some different needles for my next head. Thanks for your help. Linda
Yes, basically the German "no barb" needles are for micro rooting. Just an FYI... It's not a good idea to keep pulling your baby's hair out because if you get too many holes in the head it will be like a perforation in paper where it says "tear here" and then the head might cave in. Too many holes can compromise and weaken the vinyl. Re-dos on rooting are not as forgiving as re-dos on painting. Just thought I'd mention that.
Hello everyone...as I stated in my first post.."Tina " was my first finished baby. My daughter and I are now working on our next two babies.." Gumdrop" for me, and "Sassy" is being done by her. They are not finished as yet but this is what we have accomplished thus far....any feed back will be greatly appreciated. Once we get the hang of it we will start our new business together.
Sweet... it's kinda hard to see with them being so small. Did you use the "attach photo" at the bottom of the page under where you reply to messages to post? Right now I couldn't comment on them till I see them larger. :o
This is my very first baby doll. Little Zoe from Secrist. I haven't started the hair yet, but rooting the eyelashes was very easy. Learned volumes and am looking forward to #2! Linda H. in B.C.
Oops I guess I should have posted my other topic here?
Ok well I had some trouble with the head. Stripped the engraved hair lining removed the factory paints. This baby is a citytoy baby. I didn't want to chance buying one online yet till I can see if I liked reborning 1st with a cheaper baby. As you can see I have some chalkiness under the babies mouth and between the eyes. Hopfully when I blush it goes away :( I am so scared. I LOVE the arms so much! Texturing with a sponge was so fun! Ofcourse I did that after the flesh pouncing. I tried veining messed up on a few because they came out too dark but most of them came out well I think. Very suttle though. I just hope eyes more blushing and rooting goes well or ill cry and give up hehehe. I am using genesis. Should I try coloring the creases? As you can see I am sticking with the natural body for this one. The next one I will use a soft body. I can use all the help I can get. I really need to figure out a way to get rid of that chalky look. Here are some pictures sorry for the quality. I read somewhere that someone said using a flash flushes the baby colors out? So I didn't use a flash :(

Have you finished painting, as I can't from these pics, see any chalkiness, your lips dont look like they have been painted yet. Usully when you put the heat set varnish on it is the last thing, And as Leah, from Tea, has posted previously you heat set for 10 mins ,let cold and reheat for another twen mns.
Nope not finished yet. Still have some creases to do, nails, lips, blushing on the cheeks etc.. The chalkiness is under the lips. Looks like dried milk alittle LOL
If you post these pics using the add photos under where you post your comments, we can enlarge them by clicking them. Since the photos are already large that should work just fine. Then we can see the chalkies and comment better. So far your technique looks good. Yes, definately add crease color, but make it subtle not real visible. That way it's more natural. Some make their creases look so dark it does make the baby look painted. If you still have chalkies, putting more paint on it, it will still be there. I would suggest baking a few minutes longer. or taking some thinner (lightly) and pouncing where you have them. Sometimes it's too much paint and we don't realize we put too much.
The baby in my avatar was my first. I think the sculpt was called Jaden--I only had a week to work on her because she was for Grandma's birthday to be presented at the party. I'm working on my second one now and still trying to get the skin just right. She is the sculpt Riley. As soon as I complete her, I plan to work on my first Secrist doll.
I am new to this but this is my second baby that I'm working on. I am real happy with how she's looking, but I would like to see what everyone thinks. She is Secrists Tina head and corey limbs, I welcome all comments I am going to dress her in red for the holidays.
You appear to be doing her as a little older baby (no motteling showing as I can see). She looks nice. Maybe it's my computer but I don't see much/any blushing on the cheeks, nose, etc. Have you done much? The lips look pretty good. Looks like her basecoat is on pretty ok. I don't know what everyone else thinks, maybe they are learking lol
Thanks for your reply. I did do veining and blushing but the blushing is very light and doesn't really show up on the picture.I think I can add more blushing and dry it with the heat dry gun. She is a bi racial baby and my granddaughter is biracial and has white creases so I was trying to do that with this baby but your right she needs more color. thank you so much.
You might want to take the crease color and just thin it down really well and just give a hint of color in the creases. I figured she was a darker skinned baby but wasn't quite sure what you were trying to accomplish.
In the case of bi-racial coloring, be sure not to use too much blushing.
She sure looks different than my little blonde one. Amazing just how different they can all look depending on coloring, hair, eyes, etc. Even my Apple Valleys where I do 5 of the same face. Depends on just how they're done as to the look. :)
short note: if you go to "advanced editor" to post, go to the bottom of the page and click the box by "attach image", you will be able to post pics we can enlarge to see them better. Didn't know if you knew this. ;)
Well I am going to attempt to put some crease color and a little blushing on her today provided the grandchildren are being angels ( yea right ) they are 3 and 4 but I'm going to try it. Your right that the babies look so different depending on how their done I wouldn't have thought they were the same baby. I thank you for your help and I'll try to put the picture on right the next time, I'm not very good with the computer. Thanks Again
I can't wait to see her when she's all done :) Don't worry, at least you did post some pics. I think since people see the "insert pic" thing with the other things you can do (like change font, add link, etc) they don't go all the way to the bottom and see the one I was talking about. It's ok. The only problem with that is that we dont'get to enlarge the pics to see a closer up shot. Lots of people do that.
Hi, Joythread - I just had to reply to your post. I am brand new to this, just joined the forum tonight.
I have been working on a Berenguer just for practice, and today started Riley. I thought Riley was a little ugly, but now I'm so excited since seeing yours. She's beautiful ! You're doing a wonderful job with her.
Your first baby is great too. I know she made a wonderful gift.
I'll try to get it onto here. Okay..it worked. I had the wrong sized eyes in and she needed a 22mm, but I liked the blue color and the tow head blonde angora mohair. Today I got her right eyes in and I've got the glue in place in the head etc. The body is put together...just waiting. After I get her done, I'll dress her and take some pictures of her and guess I'll post them in the one where that's showing the babies when they are done.

Panda....I too have Riley and I thought...how homely the little thing/or big was. Her eyes are so wide set I've just been looking at her and pushing her aside. She sure looks different with some coloring huh? I take it she's the one wrapped with pink? I was looking forward to it as I wanted some full arms to show off some cute short sleeved things...but...maybe now I'll get her going. Mom liked her because she had pigtails....hehe...maybe that's what I'll fix for her. I heard you can make them to clip on or take off, which that might be interesting.

Aviva, your little toehead baby looks adorable! And congratulations on posting your pic successfully here in the artist showcase. I can't wait to see her done and put together! You can also start your own thread in here with your own topic like she's done, or my newest or something like that if you want. See what others have put in theres. You'll thing of something.
Try looking at your own eyebrows. See how each hair either goes along with the others or overlaps as you go from the large end to the tip of each one. Try making them a little shorter and angling them toward the ears a bit more. Or just fill in between them with some shorter, smaller hairs. Paint/draw them on but don't bake till you're happy with them.
I'm working on my first sculpt...she is Audrey by Adrie Stoete. I have her painted, including limbs, but only took a pic of her face. I am thinking that her face is finished. Since I'm new at this, what do you all think? Do I need to add anything else for color?
Now that is two clear shot photos. Beautiful skin tones! If it was my baby I would add more depth to the inner mouth and the corners of the mouth. Shade the corners and add one shade darker paint on the inside of the mouth. No harsh lines, fade in color. I would also add a dash of pink in the tearduct (spelling?) inside corners of the eyes.
Did you shade the inside of the ears Sweetie?
I can't wait to see how she will look when you done with her. I think she will turn out a star!
Nice job hun! I wish you could set her on her neck so I can see her face like straight on. But the coloring looks good, I too would color the tearduct and also rim the inside of the eyelids (top and bottom). She also looks like she could use some shading in the eyelid crease and around the nostrils.
